"What have you been doing?"
"I’ve been with the love of my life," he replied. "To me, that’s enough."
"Jeff, did you ever find your dream girl?"
"Yes, but that’s my own trip," a quick smile. "Even though I spilled it all over these records."

[You will always be our baby. Doo-doo-oop-ahhhh.]Tonight’s the night. After a harvest of extraordinary fruitfulness, we wave goodbye to our dear, our sweet, our darling, Shaylah Kloska. This note’s for you, Shaylah. After the gold rush of positive good feeling brought to the band and to our lives, there comes a time where you just have to get back to life.  You brought us higher than our ragged glory could ever expect to climb. At times, it felt like we were touching the mythical Eldorado. We were on the beach and you were a thousand points of light landing on water. Now, you go back to your old ways, avoiding trans fats and loving your freedom. They say to keep new friends and old, they talk about silver and gold, but, honey, you’re all colors of the spectrum, you’re life reflected in a mirror ball. Long may you run, Shaylah, past this fork in the road, rolling over the green dales. You’re through living with war. You’re rushing like a prairie wind. Are you passionate? Hell yes. And that’s one of the things we’ll miss most. We’ll stumble for a bit without you. Off aim. Like a broken arrow. But, we’ll look up at the sky, at the harvest moon, and you’ll be with us. Everybody’s rockin’ still, Shay, their faces are just a little sadder, their steps a little more shuffling. My friend Ashley has a dog named Zuma you should meet. Neil Young once sang that “everybody knows this is nowhere”, but you made this band, and, by extension, this life, somewhere to be. From spotting hawks and doves on 16-hour drives to enjoying American stars ‘n bars together, there’s an entire lifetime of memories packed into two too short years. You were the re-ac-tor of the band. The heart. We were le noise and you were the clear voice coming through. Because of you, Chaperone sleeps with angels, not fishes. Because of you, we have chrome dreams, too. So, wherever you may go, we will always, always be with you. You will always, always be with us.I don’t know what we’ll do without you, but I’m damn proud of what we did with you.
[Shaylah’s last show with Chaperone is tonight (1/28) at the Beat Kitchen. Be there be there be there.]
